Last week, thanks to Craigslist I purchased a white1992 Mazda Miata for $2000 to use as my commuter to visit the independent locally owned businesses (ILOB) in the Bay Area. I still had Craigslist fever though as I browsed through the "cars and trucks for sale by owner" when I woke up this morning.
My financial adviser Pat has been itching for a white car and when I found a white 99 Accord Coupe I emailed it to him to get his 2 cents. While I knew it was a good deal for $3300 - Hondas and Toyotas have ridiculous resale value - I got caught off guard by his "red flag deal" response. Essentially these deals are deleted by the author soon after its posted. I called the guy earlier just to see if it wasn't a fake ad. Five minutes later, I called again saying I forgot to ask for the location of the car.
Fortunately, I was the first person to contact this seller. He texted me his address and without finishing my breakfast I called my gf to get ready to pick up a car. Driving from Dublin to SF is pretty far, so I asked the guy to hold it for me. I had a bad Craigslist experience in the past when I drove to SF to buy an LCD monitor and when I arrived the guy sold it to someone that he thought was me....
I had no intention to buy another car so soon, but when Pat says a deal is in play, you go for it. The guy insisted I test drive the car, so after going for a spin around Portrero SF I got my second white car of 2013.
